Key visual for an exihibition
This is the key visual for the group exhibition called "Matter of Life (Japanese title: Sei-wo-Yomu)". It is organised by the KUMA fundation which support young artists.
Although the six artists use different medium of expression, they share a common theme of various ways of being "alive" that are not limited to a human-centred worldview, and are brought together in a single exhibition.
The key visual was created in a way that to correspond a beautiful statement written by one of the artists, Maya Masuda.

Exhibition statement
Since 2010, the global environment surrounding humans has undergone major changes, such as global warming and pandemics, and the autonomy of this environment has had a marked impact on the conventional human-centred view of the world. Just as architecture transforms the human body or chemicals remain on the earth far longer than the human lifespan, all beings, not just people, become subjects of representation in the world.
Based on these discussions, this exhibition focuses on the boundary space where multiple subjects such as people, organisms and materials intersection, and attempts to approach the various phenomena related to life from a multifaceted perspective. Starting from prayer, which originates in awe of otherness, to the autonomy of objects such as buildings, materials and bodies, and then to the interstice where machines, humans and all kinds of animals intersections. These thought experiments will serve as a guide to rethink the "life" of all beings in our time.

若い世代のアーティストを支援する、クマ財団が主催するKUMA experiment 第七弾の展示キービジュアルを制作しました。展示のタイトルは 『生を読む』。
６人の参加クリエイターは表現メディアがそれぞれ異なっていますが、人間主体の世界観にとどまらない、さまざまな 「生」 のありようについて考察することを共通のテーマとし、１つの展示としてまとめています。

展示ステートメント
2010年以降、地球温暖化やパンデミックなど、人間を取り巻く地球環境は大きく変化し、その自律性は、これまでの人間を主体とする世界観に顕著に影響を与えてきました。建築が人の体を変容させ、化学物質が人間の寿命よりも遥かに長く地球に残存するように、世界においては人だけでないあらゆる存在が表象の主体となるのです。
本展ではこうした議論を踏まえ、人と生物、物質などの複数の主体が交わる境界空間に着目し、生にまつわる様々な事象について多面的な視点からのアプローチを試みるものです。他者性への畏怖を起源とする祈りから始まり、建築物や物質、身体といったオブジェクトの自律性、それから機械や人間、あらゆる動物が交わるその狭間へ。これらの思考実験は、現代においてあまねく存在の“生”を問い直す為の１つの道しるべとなるはずです。
